The National Democratic Party (NDP), previously known as the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Harlonians (DAB), is a political party in Harlon. It was founded by thegoldenportal and GreenPower312 on the 22nd of March 2021, and announced to the public the following day.

The party has been in government and held the post of Prime Minister during thegoldenportal's government of 2022, which lasted from May to August of that year, when it was ousted in a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister thegoldenportal, following the resignation of one of their MPs. The Harlon Progress Party (HPP) succeeded their government.

Logo meaning

The logo of DAB has several meanings. Red, white and blue is the colours that were used to represent the symbol of Care, Freedom and Democracy. The fours Chinese words below the party name (禮義廉恥) were the four most important education ideas for traditional Chinese: the sense of propriety, justice, honesty and honour / propriety, righteousness, honesty and the sense of shame / politeness, decorum, integrity and the sense of shame. The party logo of a big blue "D" shows the party is focusing on defending the democracy of Harlon.

Founding

The founder of DAB, thegoldenportal, was a new player on Harlon in early 2021. On the 15th of March, they discovered that the 3rd General Election was to be held on the 2nd of April 2021. Upon hearing a player say they'd quit Harlon if the Harlonian Centre Party (HCP) were to win for a third time, he and GreenPower312 started to create plans for a new political party, which lead to the formation of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Harlonians (DAB) on the 22nd of March.

The party faced several challenges in its early days. The party had to campaign among already established parties such as the Harlonian Centre Party (HCP), Living City Party (LCP) and Business Party (BP), all which already had support among the electorate. The party also had two further challengers, the Coconut Mall Party (CMP), and Harlonian Green Party (HGP), who had also recently been founded, but had begun their campaigns earlier then DAB.

The original party logo of DAB had several meanings. The colors of red, white and blue symbolized care, freedom and democracy. The four Chinese words below the party name (禮義廉恥) are the four most important education ideas for traditional Chinese; the sense of propriety, justice, honesty and honour/propriety, righteousness, honesty and the sense of shame/politeness, decorum and integrity. The party logo's big "D" letter was meant to represent on how the party aims to defend democracy in Harlon.

History

The first party leader was thegoldenportal, who brought the party through several elections, with gradual growth. After the General Election of April 2022, the party formed a coalition government with the Harlon Wok Party (HWP), with DAB holding the office of Prime Minister.

The government was in office until August 2022, when it became the first government in Harlonian history to be ousted in a vote of no confidence, following the resignation of one of their MPs. The coalition fell apart, and following the By-Election of August 2022, the party served as the opposition against the new HPP-HWP government led by Prime Minister NicheGuy.

Prior to the General Election of October 2022, the post of party leader was taken over by Chocolate_Rep. Prior to the General Election of April 2023, the party was renamed and rebranded to the National Democratic Party (NDP). Chocolate_Rep has since then resigned as party leader, and the post is now held by AstroCraft1.
